“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ….learn the skills and traditions of Boyne Currach making, the last remaining skin covered boat in Europe ….an experience rich in heritage!

Boyne Currach Heritage Group

The Boyne Currach Heritage Group is made up of an array of people who all have one thing in common - a great love for the history and cultural heritage of the Boyne Valley in which they live.
Artists, sculptors, traditional musicians, historians, basket weavers, wood carvers, boat builders, fishermen, naturalists, photographers, bush crafters, experimental archaeologists and more…..
We invite you to join us and experience the trip of a lifetime!!
.

Guided Walks

Take guided walks through historic glens, honey combed with ancient monuments, left as legacies of past ambitions of distant cultures, which held onto the landscape that was tilled and grazed for over 5,000 years. Be at one with the fantastic range of wild life in our magnificent valley; otters, deer, rolling salmon, kingfishers and buzzards…..
Combine evening walks with fishing using hazel poles on old canals, row your way to the Stone Age quarry
where the stones of the great Brú na Bóinne tombs were floated on high tides when the waters were higher and warmer.

Traditional Boats

Learn the skills of the ancient tradition of leather boat making first hand, under the guidance of our currach-makers, who bring their unique experiences and skills to bear as they explain and demonstrate the traditional craft of currach-making.
Experience the Boyne Valley in a unique fashion as you voyage down river
, through some of Ireland’s most historical corridors in one such craft; a woven leather clad currach.

Traditional Crafts

Weave a basket, carve a Celtic spiral or help to weave a currach frame for next year’s fleet. Sit by an open fire in the Boyne Currach cottage; learn a tune on the fiddle or the tin whistle, or a set dance or an old Irish song……
Or slumber in still waters in tory currachs and contemplate on our achievements from a humble wicker craft.
Avail of the opportunity to experience the skills of bush crafting and camping along the banks of the magical River Boyne, hear the old Irish mythical stories
 about our ancient heroes …….
Whatever you wish to do, it can be arranged to suit you! All that is needed is fair weather and safe waters…. so contact us and see which cultural tour appeals to you and we will do our very best to facilitate your desires. We can tailor fit your experience to suit you, in one of the most beautiful river valleys  in Ireland, so contact us today and to arrange it ….
